Commentary | Well-known scene and several times represented.
The kind of humour of this scene makes it ideal for Cruikshank's style, who represents it in a masterly way. Doña Ropdríguez' ghostly and frightened figure is remarkable, and don Quixote's too. Altisidora (or the Duchess) and other maiden observe them from the door. Excellent and agile wood engraving; light and shade effects are very good too. |
