Commentary | Copy from Savery's composition (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657; Brussels: Mommarte, 1662; Amberes: Verdussen, 1672 - 1673). In the foreground, don Quixote defeated by the Knight of the White Moon (Sansón Carrasco); in the background, Sancho, don Antonio Moreno and others in Barcelona's coast (galley and tower).
The engraving is remarkable. The modelling of both knights and the light and shadows effects must be noted (well-illuminated foreground figures against dark background figures). |
