Commentary | Copy from Bouttats' composition (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672 - 1673), who engraved this episode for the first time. In the foreground, don Quixote defeats Alonso López; in the background, the funeral procession companions escape in great confussion.
Figures are bigger in this illustration than in others; some of them (don Quixote and Rocinante) are disproportionated. The engraving, not much detailed, is acceptable, creating a good impression of movement. Torchs light effects are simple. |
Notes | In Cushing's copy the title appears totally cut. |
