Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657).
Marstrand repeats an almost typified composition (see the same by Johannot in Paris: Dubochet, 1836 - 1837); don Quixote attacks the theater while Maese Pedro appears from behind it to stop don Quixote; Sancho and others observe them. Some details are accurate to Cervantes' text (ape without tail), but others not (Maese Pedro without the patch on his eye). |
