Commentary | In the same illustration, there are two actions of different character:
In the foreground, a humorous situation: Sancho Panza falling from the tree (his image is ridiculous and deformed). In the background, an heroic one: don Quixote hunting the wild boar with the Duke and Duchess. Never before illustrated episode. This basic composition influenced Charles Antoine Coypel (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30). |
Notes | 1 - It includes indication to "Page 454", but the textual reference is in Part II, Book III, Chapter XXXIV, p. 453.
2 - This chapter is numbered wrongly; it should be II. |
