Commentary | Don Quixote and Sancho descry their village from a rising ground.
In the foreground, with his back turned on the viewer, Sancho Panza kneels before his village (background). Don Quixote observes him (he returns defeated, without armor). Sancho's donkey carries don Quixote's arms and the clothes from Altisidora's episode. Drawing and engraving are excellent (see don Quixote's face). |
Notes | 1 - Placed as frontispiece.
2 - Copy after Chodowiecki's illustration for Leipzig: Caspar Fritsch, 1780-81. |
