Commentary | Don Quixote with the barber basin and mounted on Rocinante. Sancho embracing his donkey. Well-defined iconography.
On the left pedestal, "AMADIS"; on the right one, "ROLANDO". Both as classical statues. Above, a medallion with Dulcinea's portrait. Drawing and engraving are acceptable, but poor. |
Notes | 1 - Worn out plate.
2 - Upper part is torn out. 3 - Copied after Diego de Obregón (Madrid: Andrés García de la Iglesia, 1674) after Savery´s frontispiece for Dordrecht: Savery, 1657 (also in Bruselas: Mommarte, 1662; and Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73). |
