Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); now with great realism and excellent composition.
Smirke has designed an entry to the cave in order to see at the same time don Quixote's descent and Sancho and the cousin holding the rope (well-represented effort). Lower part of the print totally black (copious burin lines). Excellent illustration; one of the best representations of this episode. |
