Commentary In the foreground, Grisóstomo's corpse surrounded by shepherds and Ambrosio. In the left background, don Quixote, Sancho and Vivaldo listening to the conversation between Ambrosio and Marcela (in the right background); notice the diagonal from the shepherd knelt down through Ambrosio to Marcela.
Marcela's idealized figure is of great beauty (drawing and engraving are masterly).
Remarkable and classicist figures (see Grisóstomo or the old shepherd, who looks like a classical philosopher).
Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); composition of little novelty.
Notes 1 - Print with light foxing.
2 – Newly-engraved by J. Phillibrown for London: Charles Daly, c. 1830.
