Commentary | Sancho, in Turkish clothes, is taken over shoulders through Barataria Island streets; several figures observe him from windows, stairs, walls, towers and balconies.
Well-created and carefully-designed composition and detailed architecture. Remarkable shading and excellent engraving. |
Notes | 1 - From set "Sold by G. Vander Gucht in Queen Street Bloomsbury" (London, c. 1728-30 or later); numbered as plate 18.
2 - Copy engraved by Gerard van der Gucht? after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30); the composition has been turned in comparison with Coypel's, but they both have the same large horizontal format. |
