Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); in the center, Sancho (his face is the center of the illustration) attacked by Maritornes and the muleteer; from the right, the innkeeper arrives kicking Maritornes with his leg; on the left, don Quixote gesticulating on his broken bed.
Scene of great movement, violence and racket; expressed by curved burin lines (see Maritornes' nightdress or don Quixote, Maritornes and the muleteer's hairs). Quite acceptable engraving as a whole, but not in some details. |
Notes | 1 - Plate II.
2 - Copied and turned after José Rivelles' illustration for Madrid: Imprenta Real, 1819. |
