Commentary Sansón Carrasco proposes don Quixote to be his squire, which causes Sancho´s sadness; well-represented action through gestures.
Cervantes says nothing about the presence of the housekeeper and the niece in this moment; they both have been included because of a later reference: "Las maldiciones que las dos, Ama y Sobrina echaran al Bachiller, no tuvieron cuento" (7:2).
Housekeeper's expression is forced; the niece without expression.
Realistic setting.
Drawing and engraving are quite acceptable.
Notes 1 – Copy in a reduced size after Bernardo Barranco’s illustration for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780.
