Commentary | Sancho and don Quixote return to their village.
In the foreground, Sancho is welcome by his wife and daughter (realistic figures). Sancho's donkey carries the clothes of Altisidora's episode (the mitre should be a capirote with painted devils). In the background, don Quixote, the priest, the barber and the housekeeper. As an habitual anecdotal detail in Hayman's illustrations, there is one dog. Hayman chooses this episode as last illustration, not don Quixote's last will or death. Acceptable engraving, but poor in details. |
Notes | 1 - Copied after Francis Hayman's design for London: Millar, 1755.
2 - Wrongly-placed in vol. III, it should appear in vol. IV following its own reference (Vol.IIII.p.349). |
