Commentary | Good composition with three groups of figures:
In the center, the carter takes don Quixote out of the cage. On the left, Sancho and his wife talking about the donkey. On the right, the barber, the priest, the housekeeper and the niece. Two children observe the scene. Good and detailed engraving; notice don Quixote's aching expression. |
Notes | 1 - Copy after F. Miranda's illustration for Madrid: Imprenta de Vega, 1804, which was also a copy after Antonio Rodríguez' illustration for Madrid: Imprenta Real, 1797.
2 - Before this illustration, there were five other plates in 1797 edition: "Pide permiso D. Quixote a la figurada Infanta Micomicona para socorrer al ventero", "Renuevase en la venta la discordia del campo de Agramante", "Sacan de la venta á D. Quixote encantado como nadie lo fue antes", "Pendencia con el cabrero en que el valor de D. Quixote quedo menos ayroso que esperaba" and "Aventura de los disciplinantes"; they have not been included in 1808 edition. |
