| Commentary | Well-known scene in 18th century editions since Coypel (Paris: Surugue, c. 1734), Vanderbank (London: Tonson, 1738) or Hayman (London: Millar, 1755).
Composition without many changes: in the foreground, Dorotea washing her feet into a stream and "combing" her hair. From the background, the priest, the barber and Cardenio observe her. Small illustration, but with excellent drawing and engraving; Dorotea's figure of great beauty. |
