Commentary | In the center of the composition, don Quixote in his bed, accepting the crucifix that the priest shows him (symbol of his sane and Christian death), and surrounded by the niece, an unknown figure, Sancho Panza, the bachelor Sansón Carrasco, other unknown figure, the barber, the housekeeper and the notary.
The figure of the niece, as a classical Mary Magdalene, is remarkable. Well-resolved scene, theatrical (canopy), but not too much dramatic. Drawing and engraving are excellent. |
