Commentary | Illustration in keeping with 18th century liking for scenes with dialogue. At Ebro river, don Quixote calms down Sancho; accurate to Cervantes' text: "¿por dicha vas caminando a pie y descalzo por las montañas Rifeas, sino sentado en una tabla, como un Archiduque, por el sesgo curso de este agradable río, de donde en breve espacio saldremos al mar dilatado?" (29:2).
The representation is not humorous (as it would be the later moment when don Quixote and Sancho crash into the mill), but don Quixote's absurd words are. |
