Commentary | In the center of a large room, the main group of characters: don Quixote, sat on the floor ("se sentó en mitad de la sala en el suelo, molido", 62:2) and pushing away two ladies who try to help him ("Fugite partes adversae"; 62:2).
Also Sancho, trying to help his master, don Antonio Moreno and two servants. This group is surrounded by several persons present at the ball, some of them disguised, and musicians. Drawing and engraving are acceptable as a whole, but poor and deficient in details. |
Notes | 1 - Plate XXIII (it should be XXIV; although its number is wrong, it has been placed rightly).
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Cochin's illustration (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. |
