Commentary | Characters are divided in three groups:
On the left, the main one; surrounding the enchanted head (as a Roman bust), don Quixote thoughtful, Sancho astonished, don Antonio and two friends. On the right, in the foreground and in the background, two more groups that balance the composition. Theatrical scene with quite acceptable drawing and engraving. |
Notes | 1 - Plate XXIV (it should be XXIII; although its number is wrong, it has been placed rightly).
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue,c. 1735); many details from the setting have been eliminated. 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. 5 - The plate is not signed. |
