Commentary | Sancho is persecuted by Duke's servants who want to wash his beard with dirty water; the squire runs away looking for the Duchess' help.
Good setting and composition; well-represented movement. On the right, the composition is opened with a deep perspective, but the light comes from the opposite side. Drawing and engraving are acceptable as a whole, but deficient in some details. |
Notes | 1 - Plate XVI.
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Boucher's illustration (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. 5 - The plate is not signed. |
