Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote, mounted on Rocinante with great dignity, puts the barber basin on his head, while Sancho Panza laughs.
In the background, two woman (not from Cervantes' text) and the barber's mule. Drawing and engraving are acceptable as a whole, but deficient in some details. |
Notes | 1 - Plate VI.
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30); the figure of the barber running away has not been copied. 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. 5 - The plate is not signed. |
