Commentary | This gallant scene, with not many changes, is habitual in 18th and 19th centuries editions.
Sancho speaks to the Duchess, who rides a white horse and holds a goshawk (accurate to Cervantes' text), and points to don Quixote (in the background). Just one maiden accompanies the Duchess; in other illustrations, her retinue is larger. Engraving of great quality; Duchess' figure is excellent (face, gesture, clothes , horse...); remarkable lighting. |
