Commentary | Don Quixote as Knight of the Lions (one lion appears behind him) holding a sword and a sun faced shield.
Behind him, on a semicircle wall, Dulcinea, as a peasant woman ("DULCINEE DU TOBOSO"), and Sancho, as governor ("SACHO PANCA GUBERNADOR"). Between them, a medallion with Merlin's portrait ("MERLIN"). Drawing and engraving are quite good. |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Savery's frontispiece (part II) for Dordrecht: Savery, 1657 (also in Brussels: Mommarte, 1662 and Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73); the lion has been turned. |
