Commentary This scene was already represented by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); now, it has been illustrated with great realism and theatrical sense.
Accurate to Cervantes' text, when Luscinda embraces Cardenio, don Fernando puts his hand to his sword as to take vengeance on Cardenio, but Dorotea clasps him around his waist (knees in the text) to stop him. Also the priest, Sancho and the barber.
Scene resolved in keeping with Romanticism taste; romantic, theatrical and dramatic.
Notes 1 - Reprint of Johannot's illustration for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
