Commentary | Well-known scene; Johannot has resolved it with naturalism and a simple composition with the basic characters: don Quixote knelt before the innkeeper, who holds a book and a sword, and observed by both party girls/"ladies" (they do not hold either the spurs or the sword) and a boy (with a candle?); there's a light illuminating the scene from the top, but we can not see any light.
Interesting and marked light and shadow contrast. |
