Commentary | During the invasion of Barataria Island, Sancho is armed and tied between two shields, but he falls on the ground and remains unable to move as a tortoise; some soldiers appear trampling him.
This representation is exaggerated (Sancho is completely trapped between two shields as a mussel), but funny. Two figures of soldiers are remarkable: the one laughing on the left and the one sat on Sancho. Sancho´s frightened expression is remarkable too. The setting has been resolved with little care. |
Notes | The illustration is dated on September 1, 1792.
It is placed as frontispiece. |
