Commentary | The scene is resolved with the basic composition.
Micomicona (Dorotea) kneels down before don Quixote and the knight tries to prevent her from doing it. The barber, also knelt and disguised with a beard (ox tail), laughs, while Sancho holds the barber basin. Behind the trees, the priest and Cardenio are hidden. Well-detailed drawing and engraving (see Micomicona's dress, trees, cascade...). |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Coypel's design (first appeared in Surugue: Paris, c. 1724; also copied for La Haye: Pierre de Hondt, 1746).
2 - Same plate first engraved for La Haye: P. Gosse & A. Moetjens, 1744; the references have been changed from Spanish into French and the signatures erased. 3 – Plate IX. |
