Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote attacking the flock of sheep.
In the background, the shepherds preparing their slings to stone don Quixote while Sancho gesticulates to stop him. Certain disproportion between Rocinante and the sheeps. The scene has been represented with a composition already used in London: Hodgkin, 1687. Carefully-done drawing and engraving of great quality despite some faults (see Sancho). |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Le Bas' design (first appeared in an edition in La Haye: Pierre de Hondt, 1746).
2 - Not included in La Haye: P. Gosse & A. Moetjens, 1744. 3 – Plate V; unsigned. |
