Commentary | Savery's composition (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657) has been used here.
In the foreground, don Quixote defeated by the Knight of the White Moon (Sansón Carrasco) on the beach of Barcelona. In the background, Sancho, don Antonio Moreno, the Viceroy and others observe the scene. Also the same setting (a port wall, galleys...). Here, don Quixote's figure is more ridiculous, more defeated. Acceptable drawing and engraving. |
Notes | 1 - The plate is not signed by any illustrator.
2 - This illustration has been included following the program created by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657) and Bouttats (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73). |
