| Commentary | In the foreground, one of the merchants' grooms beating don Quixote, fallen on the ground.
On the right, the merchants from Toledo; one of them with a gesture to stop the groom. Good details accurate to Cervantes' text: the broken lance, don Quixote's expression: "amenazando al cielo, y a la tierra, y a los malandrines, que tal le parecían" (4:1). In the background, a second scene: Pedro Alonso rescues don Quixote and takes him back to his home (5:1). |
