Commentary | Don Quixote attacks Maese Pedro's theater and puppets before Sancho and an astonished public.
Well-resolved composition. Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657). Accurate details (monkey without tail, Maese Pedro's patch, his servant holding a wand to tell the story...). Some details (lamp) are copied from Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724). One of the best illustrations of the whole edition; good composition, drawing and engraving; good effect of movement, expressions and gestures; figures of excellent engraving and drawing (see Sancho Panza and don Quixote). |
