Commentary | One of the officers of the Holy Brotherhood tries to arrest don Quixote; he holds a paper with don Quixote's description.
Don Quixote grabs the officer by his neck; other officers and the innkeeper arrive to help him. The priest arrives and reads the order. Don Fernando tries to separate don Quixote and the officer. Meanwhile, Sancho Panza and the other barber continue fighting because of the packsaddle. In the background, the innkeeper's wife, her daughter and Maritornes. Accurate detail from the previous scene: the broken lance; "Don Quixote [...] le iba a descargar tal golpe sobre su cabeza, que a no desviarse el cuadrillero, se le dejara allí tendido: el lanzón se hizo pedazos en el suelo" (45:1). Plate of great quality because of composition, drawing, engraving and details (see faces, clothes, setting, inn architecture...). |
