Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote fallen on the ground and beaten by a pair of yangüeses.
Behind, Sancho is beaten by other yangüés. In the background, the mares. This is one of the best illustrations of the whole edition. Print of great beauty. Don Quixote´s representation is different in comparison with other illustrations in the same edition; classical model; his figure reminds classical sculptures as Dying Gaul or Discobolo-warrior (Capitoline Museum, Rome). |
