Commentary | Theatrical composition.
In the center: Quiteria and Basilio, well-lighted. On the right, Basilio ready to draw his sword. From the left, don Quixote advances to stop him, while Sancho limits himself to protect his meal. Also the priest and several women. Preisler's engraving is better and more detailed than Haas'. |
Notes | 1 - Good copy of Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1724) through Picart's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format and same turned composition in comparison with Coypel's illustration.
2 - In Cushing's copy, tomes III and IV are bound together (volume II). |
