| Commentary | Don Quixote's first sally allegorical representation. Don Quixote, with Rocinante, protected by Folly (with the basin and a jester scepter) and Love (Cupid holding a torch touching don Quixote's heart and pointing out Dulcinea). Dulcinea appears as a French Lady carrying wheat, as Sancho refers in chapter 31:1. In the background, a windmill transformed into a giant (episode 8:1) and a flock of sheep (episode 18:1).
Clumsy drawing and engraving; disproportionate details. |
| Notes | 1 - Clumsy copy of Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1724) through Jacob van der Schley's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format and turned composition in comparison with Coypel's illustration. |
