Commentary Princess Micomicona knelt before don Quixote but he tries to prevent her from doing it (see the gesture of his hand).
Sancho Panza explains to don Quixote who Micomicona is; the barber, disguised with a beard, appears as her squire.
In the background, Cardenio and the priest (they should appear hidden).
Plate of great quality; masterly drawing and engraving (see Micomicona's face, don Quixote's hand...).
Notes 1 - Same plate from London: Tonson, 1738 Spanish edition and London: Tonson, 1742 English edition.
2 - The basic composition for this scene was designed by Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724). Coypel's illustrations were widely-known in England (London: Knaplock, 1725; London: Walthoe, 1731...), but Oldfield criticized them ("Sobre las Estampas desta Historia". I, iii-iv).
