| Commentary | Princess Micomicona knelt before don Quixote but he tries to prevent her from doing it (see the gesture of his hand).
Sancho Panza explains to don Quixote who Micomicona is; the barber, disguised with a beard, appears as her squire. In the background, Cardenio and the priest (they should appear hidden). Plate of great quality; masterly drawing and engraving (see Micomicona's face, don Quixote's hand...). |

2 - The basic composition for this scene was designed by Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724). Coypel's illustrations were widely-known in England (London: Knaplock, 1725; London: Walthoe, 1731...), but Oldfield criticized them ("Sobre las Estampas desta Historia". I, iii-iv). |
