Commentary | Lebarbier has chosen the very instant when don Quixote recovers his reason and becomes Alonso Quijano again.
Center of the composition: don Quixote under a great canopy, emphasized by the light. In the foreground: Sancho (left) and the priest (right). In the background: the housekeeper, the niece, the barber, Sansón Carrasco and the notary. Don Quixote's face is remarkable; good drawing and fine engraving appropriate for the small format of the illustration. Emotional scene, with some drama (see housekeeper and niece's faces). Deficient inking/printing. |
