Commentary | Sancho, tied between two planks (they should be shields), observes several men fighting with swords and torches.
The engraving is acceptable as a whole, but poor in details (smoke, architecture perspective...). The light and shadow modelling in the two men in the foreground is worth noting. |
Notes | 1 - Photomechanical copy of the illustration appeared in Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73 (same plate by unknown engraver first used for Brussels: Mommarte, 1662, which was a copy after Savery's illustration for Dordrecht: Savery, 1657). |
