Commentary | Don Quixote defeats the Knight of the Mirrors (Sansón Carrasco) and his squire (Tomé Cecial) takes off his fake nose to stop don Quixote and prevent him from hurting Carrasco.
Illustration close to that by Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1723 - 1724); Tomé Cecial's figure is almost a copy. In Coypel's illustration, don Quixote appeared showing mercy; now, he is more defiant (he wields his sword towards Carrasco's neck). Sancho remains climbed on the tree. Drawing and engraving are excellent; large-size figures. |
Notes | 1 - This episode was also represented by Vanderbank in London: Tonson, 1738, but in a previous moment. |
