Commentary | The illustration is more accurate to Barret's adapted translation (Sancho himself breaks the cane) than to Cervantes' original text (Sancho orders a man to break the cane).
In Barret's translation, almost a totally invented new episode, the owner of the cane (and thief) is don Diego de la Llana and the owner of the ducats is Pedro Mazorca (the same labourer from Miguelturra of chapter 47:2). |
