Commentary | Sancho accepts to whip himself for money.
The representation of both characters is excellent, especially Sancho's figure (half-naked and very expressive), but the illustration is not too much accurate to Cervantes' text. The caption, "Por tu vida, amigo, que se quede en este punto este negocio, que me parece muy áspera esta medicina" (71:2), refers to a moment when Sancho is hidden among the trees, so don Quixote can not see him and the squire is whipping the trunks. Drawing and engraving are excellent. |
