Commentary | At night, while returning to the Duke's castle, Sancho and his donkey fall into a pit among some very old buildings; Sancho appears complaining and his donkey moaning.
Dorés's setting, including the old buildings, is very accurate to Cervantes' description. Drawing and engraving are excellent; notice the night light effects. Good details: three pairs of eyes shine in the darkness (on the right). |
