| Commentary | Reference to the captive's tale; after arriving to Spain, the captive and Zoraida go into a church to pray before the image of the Virgin Mary.
Doré, who visited Spain in 1861-62, has reproduced with great detail the sculpture of a Spanish "Virgen Dolorosa". Pisan has forgotten to invert the order of the letters "IHS" (In Hoc Signum). |
