Commentary | Well-known scene, but Doré has designed a very remarkable composition.
Don Quixote appears in the center, protected by his shield (so we do not see his face) and in full gallop towards the viewer; the sheeps in the foreground in great confusion; and, in the background, the shepherds getting ready to stone don Quixote (left) and Sancho (right). Excellent drawing and engraving. |
