Commentary | Top: don Quixote tells Sancho and the bachelor's cousin what he has seen into Montesinos' cave (notice his hands).
The bachelor's cousin listens to don Quixote attentively; Sancho with distrust (he knows the truth about Dulcinea's enchantment). Bottom: don Quixote's encounter with Montesinos and Durandarte (sketched as an imaginary or dreamt scene). Drawing, shading and engraving are quite remarkable. |
Notes | 1 – Plate newly engraved in a reduced size by Van der Gucht after his own plate with Vanderbank’s design first engraved for London: Tonson, 1738. |
