Commentary | The housekeeper and the niece don't allow Sancho to visit don Quixote.
Original composition: Sancho with his back to the viewer and the housekeeper and niece looking directly at the viewer. Unusual representation of this scene; in previous editions, the scene is resolved almost like a fight; here, the scene is calmer. Both female figures are specially remarkable; the housekeeper's expression and gesture is excellent. Good drawing and pleasant coloring; in keeping with an edition for children. |
