Commentary This episode was first represented by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1675), but in a very different way.
Savery was interested in the humorous fight between Sancho, Maritornes and the muleteer.
Now, Olfield and Vanderbank have chosen a funny moment not because of the action, but of the dialogue.
Don Quixote speaks to Maritornes as if she was a maiden and she flees away from him.
On the left, the muleteer.
In this illustration, the representation of Maritornes is quite different from that in the previous plate.
Engraving and drawing are excellent.
Notes 1 - Same plate used for London: Tonson, 1738.
