Commentary | "«I am that Merlin who legends say,....»".
Merlin begins to tell his prophecy about Dulcinea's disenchantment to don Quixote; also in the scene, the Duchess, the Duke and Sancho (notice his expression). Accurate to Cervantes' text, Merlin appears dressed up like Death with Dulcinea on a cart surrounded by figures in white robes and holding lighted tapers. Very remarkable illustration; the light and shadow contrasts, the smoke effects and composition are masterly. Worth noting representation of this episode. |
