Don Quixote and Sancho encounter a cart with the actors of Angulo el Malo's company, all dressed up to perform Las Cortes de la Muerte (Devil, Angel, Cupid, Death, Emperor, Queen and Soldier). The figures in the foreground are notable (notice don Quixote's gesture); those in the background undetailed. Alpériz's drawing keeps the realistic/picturesque style used by José and Luis Jiménez Aranda for the first part; now, the shading is stronger, darker, and the setting and figures blurred. |
