Commentary | "He used to seat himself on a bench under the great poplar in our plaza, and there he would keep us all hanging openmouthed...".
Vicente de la Rosa, richly dressed, telling his stories to his neighbors. Good figures with variety of gestures, but lacking certain naturalism. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details. Realistic/picturesque style with good light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the one used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
